Kung Fu Schools, which provides martial arts training for youngsters and adults, has grown fast since it opened its doors at the Capital Business Centre and is keen to stress its strong community links. Charity fund-raising is now a regular feature and the latest successful venture was a sponsored board breaking by youngsters which brought in £6,500 for the Kidscape anti-bullying group.

School proprietor Alan Paterson says that the discipline of Kung Fu encourages individual confidence and stresses respect for others and a responsible approach to life.

He said: “Our youngsters responded enthusiastically to the sponsored board breaking and put a great deal of effort into fund-raising. We are delighted to be able to help charities in this way.”

Kung Fu Schools is also very active in giving demonstrations in the community and this led to an invitation by the Confucius Institute to put on three displays at the National Gallery to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The Kung Fu Schools team welcomed in 2010 as the Year of the Tiger with high speed action not usually seen at the home of nation’s art collection!

Capital Business Centre Manager Carol Matthews said that Kung Fu Schools was one of several highly successful leisure and recreation businesses based at CEC Centres.

She said: “It’s been impressive to see how quickly these businesses have grown and it’s great to see the community work which many undertake.”
