Step up to dancing success
10 May 2010
Rebecca Hood and Emma Felton are turning their talent for dancing into a thriving business and have set up Expressions Theatre Arts in a specially designed studio space. The new business has been launched at the Laurence Industrial Estate in Southend and already youngsters of all ages as well as adults are taking their first steps to dancing success
The two friends first took to the stage and screen in the UK and overseas before becoming instructors in leading schools but were always determined to run their own business. They decided to set up in their home town of Southend but found it difficult at first to find a location that matched all their needs.
Rebecca explains: “We wanted high quality premises which could readily be adapted for dance use together with easy access, good parking and a secure location.
“The Laurence Industrial Estate offered us everything we wanted and it was easy to divide up a unit there to provide changing facilities, a dance studio, and a reception area and waiting area.”
Emma added: “It’s great to be able to be able to teach ballet, modern and tap dancing and the enthusiasm of the students is tremendous. We have all ages from pre-school to adults and we are sure that some of these could go on to great success.”
Expression Theatre Arts joins another thriving stage school at the Laurence Industrial Estate. Last year Blah Blah Productions, a children’s and young people’s acting workshop, moved there and has established a growing reputation.
CEC Operations Manager Steve Plant says that start-up businesses find that managed workspace taken on a simple monthly licence allows them to gain quality premises without being locked into expensive long leases.
He says: “Start-ups appreciate the flexibility that a monthly licence offers and it allows them to tailor the workspace they take to the immediate needs of their business. We have a growing number of leisure and recreation based businesses at our Centres.”
The Laurence Industrial Estate is home to a wide range of businesses ranging from leisure to distribution and logistics. It offers a secure self-contained site near Southend airport with easy access.
