Landscaping around the workshop units at Capital Business Centre, Croydon, which helped the Centre win the London in Bloom Award

17.10.06 Centre of Excellence

A summer long display of colour has won the Capital Business Centre a London in Bloom Certificate of Excellence in the 2006 awards.

The Centre was given the award for the extensive use of colourful and highly aromatic lavender in landscaping surrounding the new purpose built Business Centre.

Centre Manager Jane Allen was presented with the Certificate of Excellence by Croydon Mayor Councillor Janet Marshall at a London in Bloom awards ceremony at the Arnhem Gallery, Fairfield Halls.

Jane says that the Centre landscaping has been widely praised by tenants and has matured quickly to provide a green space surrounding offices, workshops and studios.

She says: “Our aim was to provide a low maintenance and environmentally friendly planting scheme. It’s a modern and crisp combination of evergreens such as laurel and box complemented by softer heather with its flowers and scent.

“It’s great to have won an award in a major competion and we will be continuing to develop and maintain our landscaping, which is now a striking feature of the Centre.”

London in Bloom is a London wide campaign to create a lasting improvement to London's environment. It encourages displays of flowers, shrubs, trees and landscapes in places visible to the public and the sensitive use of landholdings.
