CEC is now making available the latest voice over the internet protocol phones (VOIP) which can provide an impressive range of feature services together with the important bonus of free phone calls routed via the net.The VOIP phones are already proving their worth in allowing companies free telephone calls between home and office and between CEC Business Centres. An additional benefit is the ability to use the phones from a remote location and make free calls to the office when on business trips abroad.
Darren Poultney, managing director of exhibition and conference specialists Smart AV UK, took a VOIP phone on a business visit to Paris to assess its potential.
He said: The technical performance was good and as mobile charges for calls between countries are still high there was an immediate cost saving to be made. I think VOIP phones have considerable potential and we are considering using the phones on a regular basis both in the UK where many of our staff work out of office and at international conferences and exhibitions.
CEC Operations Director David Clapham said that there had been an enthusiastic response to the offer of VOIP technology, with many surprised at how easy it was to introduce.
He said: VOIP phone features and functionality are the same as a standard office phone. All you need is a broadband or internet access connection. Phone facilities include the ability to handle two calls at a time, unlimited voice mail, call forwarding, conference calling and all the facilities available from a good digital phone.
VOIP phones are now available from CEC on a monthly agreement. Centre Managers and the CEC Communications Manager can discuss the telephone requirements of businesses in the UK and overseas to plan best use of the technology.
