14.11.06 Work begins on new £8.8M Business Centre

Construction of a new £8.8m business centre for Milton Keynes is about to begin, which will feature environmentally friendly systems, including an energy generating wind turbine.

The Milton Keynes Business Centre will offer managed office space, studios and workshops for more than 80 businesses and is the latest in a series of major developments being undertaken by Capital Enterprise Centres (CEC).

CEC has successfully built a chain of seven business centres across the south east and east and the Milton Keynes Centre will be one of the company’s largest developments to date.

CEC Managing Director Peter Boam said that the company was delighted to have been able to acquire a prestige site in Milton Keynes.

He said: “It has been a top priority for us to launch a centre in Milton Keynes where we believe there is tremendous potential for business growth. Our market research has shown that there is a very strong and continuing demand for managed work space here.

“We have found in our other Centres that start-ups, growing small and medium sized businesses and the regional offices of major companies have together formed the core of tenants and we expect to see a similar mix at Milton Keynes.”

The Milton Keynes Business Centre is taking shape on a site just off Monks Way. More than 54,000 square feet of workspace will be provided in six buildings, with dedicated office, studio and workshop blocks. It will be completed and open for business by the end of 2007.

In addition to a wind turbine, the Centre will have a green energy heating system based on a boiler fuelled by wood chips from renewable woodland resources. Recycling facilities will also be available and green travel to work will be encouraged by the provision of bike racks and staff showers.

Peter Boam added: “Using environmentally friendly systems whenever possible just makes good business sense. Our wind turbine and new heating system will be very cost-effective as well as meeting best practice environmental standards.”
