There are many ways of measuring business success, but one of them has to be staff retention.  The loyalty of CapitalSpace staff is one of the ways we know we’re getting things right: more than 60% of our employees have been with us for more than five years.

The CapitalSpace success story

Since CapitalSpace first started trading in 1999, we have expanded to nine business centres across the South East, employing a total of 40 people.  Of these, 61% have been with the company for more than 5 years, with 29% having passed the 10-year milestone with CapitalSpace.

Why high employee retention is good all round

High staff retention rates suggest many things about a business:

  • a positive working environment
  • good relationships between managers and staff
  • good job satisfaction
  • clear organisational direction
  • effective management
  • an investment in people so they can grow in their roles and within the organisation.

Retaining good staff is also good for business, as it means you can substantially reduce the costs involved in hiring and training new staff, along with the those associated with loss of talent and organisational knowledge.

What our staff say

So why do our staff stay for so long?  We asked a couple who have both been with us for more than ten years for their views:

“I had worked in the industry since 2000 and joined CapitalSpace in 2003.  At the interview, what that stood out to me was the emphasis on customer service and passion for the product.  I was very excited to join a company where I felt I would be given the tools and support to offer a great customer service, which was – and is – very important to me.  This. together with a great team of people where everyone is treated as an individual. has made the last 13 years fly by and I look forward to what the future holds for CapitalSpace.”

Lorraine Lee, Greenway Business Centre Manager

“I have stayed with CapitalSpace for so long because the centre manager’s job is a varied role – no two days are the same.  I get to meet a diverse range of customers and enable them to find what they are looking for out of their business accommodation.  I love watching companies flourish and grow whilst based at our centres and feeling that we helped them by taking the strain out of the mundane things that comes with finding and staying in business accommodation.  And it’s a nice working environment with good colleagues.”

Helen Witherden, Central Support Project Coordinator

Our philosophy of great customer service and helping start-ups and small businesses to grow has also enabled us to create a great culture for our staff – and that’s something we’re rightly proud of.
