A key part of CapitalSpace is making sure all our offices and buildings are in tip top shape at all times. Mark Halsey is the man who keeps the Croydon centre ticking.  We asked him a few questions to find out about his average day.

With a very impressive resume, Mark has worked all around with places like the Mirror Group and Parcel Force. He’s been with CapitalSpace now for 15 months. ‘I’ve always loved to decorate and tinker and really have been doing this for 30 years.’

What does your day look like?

‘I start at 8am when I see the centre manager and go through all the worksheets for the day. I then walk the site looking at all the communal areas for things like lights out, services down, toilets and utilities. Once these things are sorted I go on to the workbook and the programmed jobs – if there are any – for the general maintenance and upkeep of the building.’

‘A lot of my other time is spent decorating and ensuring that the centre is looking good for the customers so we can always provide the right environment for those people coming to and from the centre.

‘One of the nice things (if you can call it that!) is the unpredictability of the role as you always have to be able to deal with unplanned day-to-day issues that may arise – we have had the occasional plumbing and/or electrical issue in the centre, and when this happens you just have to roll up your sleeves and get on with them.’

What is the best part of your job?

‘The people by far – being a part of the team at Croydon is great – we have a great rapport and the banter is good – we all get on and everyone is as passionate as each other about the centre and the customers.’

What’s the worst part of your job?

‘I haven’t actually come across that yet – there isn’t anything that I can say I don’t enjoy!’

So if you’re in Croydon Business Centre and spot a leaky tap or a burnt-out lightbulb, say hello to Mark when he pops along to fix it.
