Everyone loves a story of how a small, local business grew into something spectacular. That’s what has happened with AC Leigh, which has a branch at our Colchester Business and Seedbed Centre.

Conquering the industry

Founded in Norwich in 1959, AC Leigh offer ironmongery, security and locksmith services. Trade Sales Director Simon Howlett said: ‘The company has grown to be one of the largest independent architectural ironmongers specifying and supplying ironmongery for projects nationwide. We have three architectural ironmongery branches, stocking everything from door furniture and gate hardware through to signs, coat hooks and fire seals.  We also have one specialist access control installation division – which sells things like keypad entry systems and magnetic locks – in East Anglia.  All of them have with highly experienced and well-trained staff.’

Finding the right accommodation

It isn’t easy finding the right business property for a developing company and AC Leigh had to weigh up a number of things before choosing CapitalSpace. In the end, it was several of our Colchester centre’s perks that won them over: ‘We moved to the Colchester Business and Seedbed Centre in November 2017, the site on Severalls Park was an ideal location close to the A12, giving good access for our trade customers. The unit size was ideal and with plenty of parking out front for our customers. We have been very happy with CapitalSpace; whenever there is an issue, the site staff are always on hand to sort it out.’

Setting a new standard

It’s not hard to see that AC Leigh has been very successful over the last decades, but it seems that their Colchester branch has stood out: ‘Our Colchester branch is now our template going forward, with a smaller trade counter supplying a wide range of items from stock. We always measure the success of our branches by foot fall and sales turnover and this shows with Colchester.’

It’s fantastic to see how successful AC Leigh has become since opening nearly nearly six decades ago. We’re happy that they chose our Colchester centre for their continued growth going forward.
