Many business owners struggle for years to turn their ideas into a profitable business.  If that’s you, you’ll be very jealous of our customer, OH MY Cakery, based at our Milton Keynes Business Centre.  Rather than having to persuade people to like and buy their products, the company was set up because customers were queueing up for them.  It’s a modern fairy tale, made possible by the power of social media.

Something different

Kirsty Lund started Oh My Cakery after her family and friends essentially did her marketing for her: ‘At the beginning I would just bake for my kids and then some more of my family and after a while my friends wanted some too. Then they would post my cakes on Instagram and other social media sites, which started to get people interested in my cakes. I think the fact that they’re so colourful draws people in. I started to think that maybe it was a good idea to turn it into a business and with the help from my mum, we decided to just do it and find somewhere to set up shop.’

Choosing CapitalSpace

Kirsty needed somewhere that would be in a good location and spacious enough: ‘I wanted somewhere close by, as I still need to pick up my kids from school and wanted to be available at all times. I also needed somewhere that was up to my standards and CapitalSpace was perfect. It’s well maintained, it is always very clean and the staff are great. We chose a workshop and have since done a whole load of plumbing, electrics and kitted it out with all our station needs. We also want to focus on adding a seating area for people to come in.’

Getting involved

Kirsty’s passion is making cakes, but she is also keen to develop her business: ‘I’ve recently started to do workshops for people, which have gone really well. It’s great seeing people get into the passion that I have for making cakes and the creations people have come up with are brilliant. I also want to continue to grow our social media presence, which hasn’t been difficult due to our creations being very colourful and vibrant, which is what attracts people.’
