On the 30th May last year, the newly refurbished Building 80 at our Churchill Square Business Centre in Kings Hill was opened. But even before the ribbon was officially cut, all of the 30 offices in the development had been snapped up – which highlights the demand for business accommodation in the South East for SMEs.

Fanfare opening

It’s been a year since our very own Building 80 was opened by a star-studded cast, including the MP for Tonbridge and Malling, Tom Tugendhat; The Worshipful Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Pam Bates; the Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Mark Dance; Capital Space’s managing director, Peter Boam; Churchill Square’s Business Centre Manager, Sue Billings, and the Building 80 customers.

Filling a gap in business accommodation provision

“Building 80 was a major investment for us, but that fact it was fully occupied before the day of opening is testimony to the appetite for small and growing businesses for the sort of business accommodation that we are providing and shows we’ve met a real gap in the market,” commented Peter Boam. “We’re delighted to be able to help business owners and entrepreneurs achieve their professional and personal goals.”

Two business accommodation anniversaries

The one-year anniversary of the unveiling of Building 80 coincides nicely with the 20th anniversary of the first Capital Space business centre, which opened in 1999, as a modern approach to supporting small- and medium-sized businesses. The idea was initially inspired by systems generally seen in hotels, where the business centre owns the property and undertakes all the management of it, leaving the occupier free to focus on making their business a success without having to worry about sorting out things like maintenance, telecommunications and security, and with only one monthly bill.   

A customer’s perspective

The first Building 80 customers moved into their new offices a year ago and they’ve reaped the benefits the new development has brought for them ever since: “I’m delighted to be in Building 80 at Churchill Square, having been previously in a different building on the square,” said Caroline Brooks-Johnson of Inheritance Law. “It’s important to me that my clients are looked after whilst waiting to see me – they often comment on the lovely reception staff and waiting area.  As for me, I like the fact that despite working alone, I’m not isolated and it’s lovely to have friends to chat to from other businesses whilst we make our coffees in the kitchen.”

Meeting rooms

As well as providing an additional 30 offices for companies transitioning out of the start-up phase, Building 80 offers a range of modern meeting rooms of different sizes, available to all our customers and other businesses in Kings Hill for everything from staff appraisals and customer meetings to training and seminars.

Caring for the environment

Building 80 has also helped support the CSR strategies of our customers by increasing the amount of energy that we generate on site with additional solar panels on the roof and the installation of very popular electric vehicle charging points, again available to our customers and the wider Kings Hill community. 

We’re proud of the investments we’re making to help support the businesses of the South East. Our recent development in Kings Hill has augmented our offering for both our staff and customers in Churchill Square, as well as offering additional benefits to the wider business community.
