Capital Space support the NHS during COVID-19

Coronavirus has unfortunately caused turmoil to our social, professional and recreational lives; despite its devastating consequences, it has united the UK in one aspect: our appreciation for the NHS – and our gratitude to those who work within it – has never been higher. At Capital Space we have been blown away by the selflessness of our doctors, nurses, porters, care assistants and support staff (to name a few), who have risked their safety to care for those who have fallen ill with coronavirus. In light of this, we have been keen to do all we can to give back to the service, and we are pleased to announce the following donations we have made for charities involved in the NHS and social care spheres.

£200 donated to Sir Captain Tom Moore’s NHS fundraiser

Captain Tom Moore took the world by storm when he pledged to complete 100 laps of his garden before his 100^th birthday in a bid to try to raise some money for the NHS during the pandemic. His commitment captured the heart of the nation, raising more than £32 million for NHS charities. We were inspired by the tenacity of Captain Tom, finding his ethos and zest for life reflecting our company’s ethos, and on his birthday, Greenway Business Centre and the head office of Capital Space made a £200 donation to his fundraiser.

As well as receiving a knighthood on his birthday, the Captain received an estimated 140,000 birthday cards and we were keen to get involved with celebrating his birthday as well. Our employees, alongside their family members, created a birthday video, wishing Captain Tom a good day and thanking him for inspiring us and the nation.

Supporting PPE for key workers

One of the strains on the NHS during the pandemic has been access to appropriate protective clothing and equipment. One of our Greenway Business Centre customers, FBL Quilting and Crafts , were keen to get involved as the lockdown had prevented them from their usual business of teaching sewing classes . Company owner, Becky Preen, instead decided to put her time to good use, creating scrubs, gowns and other equipment for NHS and care service workers. We were truly encouraged by Becky’s efforts and the Greenway Business Centre in Harlow has contributed £100 towards her fundraiser , which helps to purchase the fabric needed to create these items.

Raising money for meals for key workers

Our Croydon Business Centre has made a £100 donation to the non-profit initiative onemillionmeals.uk , which aims to provide frontline NHS staff with hot meals during their shifts. Unfortunately, many hospital canteens are only open during daytime hours, which leaves staff working extended or overnight shifts without hot sustenance to keep them on their feet. The charity provides free nutritious meals to numerous hospitals, including the Croydon University Hospital, bringing the issue close to home for our Croydon team.

Capital Business Centre was keen to send a message that despite COVID-19 disrupting business and creating uncertainty, it is still important to get involved in charity when possible. No matter what size the contribution, charities will always be grateful and the centre hopes this shows customers that despite difficult times, we can all still help the NHS and its heroes.

Our company is proud of the NHS – and its employees – and the vital service it provides to us all. This has become increasingly clear during the COVID-19 pandemic, where frontline staff across all care sectors have been vital in efforts to combat the virus. We hope our donations to several NHS charities will provide the service with some relief, and we’re proud of our staff for finding and supporting local initiatives to make a difference.
