Running a business and being self-employed requires a certain spark and determination – literally and metaphorically in the case of our Chelmsford customer, Electrical Solutions Group. The electrical company moved to our Waterhouse Business Centre in November, following a busy 2020 lockdown season.

About Electrical Solutions Group

Electrical Solutions Group is an electrical company based in Chelmsford, carrying out commercial and domestic electrical work, including contracts at hospitals.

“We’ve been working at commercial sites throughout lockdown, and have grown in size over the last year, so that’s why we came here,” comments Emma Andrews, the Contracts Administrator at the company. Having commercial properties to work on throughout previous lockdowns has provided Emma’s business with an income stream while residential properties were off limits.

“We do a large range of electrical work, which has really helped to see us through. We were very lucky in that respect,” Emma adds.

Moving into Waterhouse Business Centre serviced offices

The company moved into our Chelmsford site in November 2020.

“It’s got everything we need,” says Emma, “The front-desk help has been brilliant, as we are new to hired office space, so the team really supported us.”

The facilities at Waterhouse Business Centre mean that there’s plenty of free parking spaces for everyone in the team, run by director Glen Andrews.

Changes to business under lockdown restrictions

During 2020, Electrical Solutions Group had to stop carrying out its residential services, and adjust the team to working on the commercial side.

“It was quite tough at the beginning, as sourcing PPE was a challenge! But other than that, we were able to keep going,” says Emma.

Advice to other business owners

“My advice to someone thinking of setting up their own business is that the hours are longer than you might anticipate,” says Emma, “We’ve been in business for five years, so are getting into the swing of things now. Being self-employed is hard work, but very rewarding.”

Looking to the future, Emma has a vision for the growth of Electrical Solutions Group, and is looking to expand the team and hire some new additions to the business.

“If there’s anyone out there that would like to join us, give us a call!”

It’s inspiring to see that our new Waterhouse customer Electrical Solutions Group has overcome setbacks posed by social-distancing restrictions and the limitations to the range of services that the company could provide, to thrive through hard work and flexibility. Welcome to the building, team!
