Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow, visited Greenway Business Centre on Friday 11th February in recognition of the centre’s continued success throughout the pandemic. Mr Halfon spoke to a number of businesses at the centre about the support they received from staff to help them survive and ultimately flourish in the wake of COVID-19.

Success in hard times

The lockdowns in the UK saw more than 389,600 private business closures by 2021 which led to the lowest levels of active British firms since 2016. However, Greenway Business Centre was close to full capacity across 2021 (average of 98% occupancy). Greenway Business Centre was praised by Halfon, who was impressed with the freedom and flexibility it offers local businesses.

The Harlow MP spoke on the centre:

“Greenway has a very simple formula – a monthly licence which enables businesses to grow and thrive, whilst also giving them peace of mind. This freedom from restraint has been particularly important in the last two challenging years amid the pandemic but continues to be an attractive proposition for all small businesses.”

Upstream expand at Greenway Business Centre

One customer who has been able to take advantage of the flexibility offered by Greenway is Trevor Corrigan, director of Upstream , a supply chain specialist, who recently celebrated 10 years at the centre. Since the pandemic, Trevor has expanded his office and rented out two new studios because of the surge in customer demand for PPE, lateral flow tests and new workstations at home.

“Our requirement for customer stockholding increased dramatically. We needed to expand both office space and storage quickly, and Greenway was able to react and fulfil two new units where our logistics and warehouse team are now currently located.”

With communication a key component of its business, Upstream has recently invested in new VoIP technology launched by Greenway this month.

“Having a continuity of communication is essential to the running of our business. If the phone lines go down, this has a major impact on our customers, and moving to the VoIP system will give us the reliability and flexibility we need in managing such a fast-paced business.”

The Greenway way, the Capital Space difference

Centre Manager at Greenway, Jack Caddy echoed MP Robert Halfon, explaining the flexibility business owners have with Capital Space:

“We provide offices, studios and workshops for 60 businesses on flexible monthly licenses, which means customers can scale up their premises as their businesses grow or scale down if they’re not so busy or restructure their operations. This flexibility, along with the support of our amazing centre team – who did everything from answering customer questions about pandemic restrictions to helping them secure grants – has been vital in helping many of them survive over the last two years,” says Greenway Business Centre Manager, Jack Caddy.

Workspaces at our nine business centres are available on simple, monthly licence terms that enable our customers to upscale, downsize, or vacate by giving one month's written notice at any time. Costs are rolled into a single monthly payment, which makes budgeting easy and straightforward for business owners. If you would like to join the many successful businesses working from our centres, please get in touch with our friendly team.
