We all have our reasons for taking the plunge and setting up our very own business. For award-winning Dr Raquel Amado, it was her passion for bringing people’s confidence to life through aesthetic procedures that inspired her to set up her own doctor led skin and medical aesthetics clinic. Skin and Medical Cosmetics is now set up in our Churchill Square Business Centre . Here we discuss the importance of good customer service in growing a business and how the support from Capital Space made her success possible.

How it all began…

Raquel was born in Portugal, where she graduated as a dental surgeon in 2007. Soon after, Dr Raquel moved to England, working for the NHS as a General Dentist. As she further developed her skills in the industry, her passion for medical aesthetics started to grow.

“During my time as a dental surgeon, I completed training in Cosmetic and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry. It was after this point, where my real passion for aesthetics began. I then put in all my time and effort into completing the right training and gaining the appropriate certificates. Fast forward nine years and I have my own clinic, if you want something enough it will happen!”

Accessible work space for her valued clients

Being in a service based industry, a clean and professional space for her patients to visit was essential for Raquel’s business .

“The location of the Churchill Square Business Centre was what initially drew me to Capital Space but it was actually the amenities that sold me on the space. The Business Centre is always clean and if anything breaks or needs repairing it gets done immediately. The receptionist staff are always lovely and supportive which is perfect for my customer facing business, a friendly and professional space was a must for me.”

“I started my business during COVID-19, so I am sure you can already imagine the stress I was facing. Capital Space were so supportive during this time, they were flexible with my rent and for that reason, the business was able to survive. I am very grateful to them. They give you the freedom to upscale, downsize or vacate at any time on a short notice period of just one month which makes the commitment a lot less daunting.”

The importance of customer service in business

Throughout her career, Dr Raquel has understood that most people are looking for a reliable, honest relationship with their practitioner, which is why she takes the time to get to know her patients and understand how they feel.

“Developing long-lasting relationships with my patients is a key part of what I do, as I believe aftercare is equally as important as the treatment itself. All my patients have my personal phone number so that I am available to them 24/7. In order to stay competitive in today’s market, going above and beyond for your clients on a more personal level is a must. By doing this, I have created a base of loyal customers, who will then also refer me to their friends, family and business colleagues. I love my patients and have a great relationship with them all.”

Her ethos clearly works as Dr Raquel picked up an industry award earlier this year – the Highly Commended award for Rising Star of the Year at the Aesthetics Awards!

Tips and tricks for entering the aesthetics industry

Raquel shared with us her key tips for anyone hoping to enter the beauty industry.

“My advice to anyone who is looking to compete in this industry is to put a lot of your time into your clients. Keep relationships ongoing with your loyal customers and spend time to really understand them as a person and what they are trying to achieve. Word of mouth is important in this industry and being keeping up relationships you are more likely to have people refer you.”

“Remember patience is key. Growth and success doesn’t happen overnight. To stay ahead of your competition, you must keep up with the latest technologies. By improving your skills, you can offer more to your clients.”

“Lastly, be open to criticism, without it you won’t grow. Be willing to learn from other people in the areas you aren’t as confident in.”

We are really proud of Raquel’s business journey so far and can’t wait to watch her business flourish over the years. If you are looking for a workspace to help aid your business growth please contact us , we’d love to help.
