Following our success in obtaining the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council Green Grant , Councillor Robin Betts, MP and  Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Regeneration and Property for Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, paid a visit to our  Churchill Square Business Centre on Thursday, 19th October to meet with our Director of Technical services, Brad Critcher, and Deputy Centre Manager, Natalie George.

We are delighted to have secured the grant for a second time so we can continue to implement our plans to help tackle climate change. Below we share what energy saving measures will be taking place at our Kings Hill centre.

The Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council Green Grant

Part-funded through the government's UK Shared Prosperity fund , the Green Grants scheme is divided into two categories. Both have different eligibility criteria, and we were eligible to apply for Section B, which was for a grant of up to £5,000 to cover up to 40% of the cost of reducing the carbon footprint of our premises.

We submitted our application on 19th May and were notified on 19th June that our application had been successful, and work commenced soon after. Capital Space was one of 8 local companies to receive the grant and by August 18th our payment of £1,975.20 came through.

Saving energy at our Churchill Square Business Centre

In aid to help tackle climate change, we had identified some energy saving measures and based our application on these. They were to replace 30 of our 100w external floodlights with 50w alternatives with built in passive infrared (PIR ) sensors so light was only activated once moment was detected.

We also made the decision to install Energy Modbus devices on our photovoltaic (PV ) inverters for buildings 30 to 60, allowing us to monitor and manage our electric energy consumption in real time which improves our energy efficiency and reduces energy costs.

Robin Betts, MP comments on Capital Space’s efforts to help improve its eco credentials:

“I am delighted that the council is able to support our small businesses through the green business grant scheme, in their efforts to reduce CO2 emissions to meet our 2030 net zero goal for our borough.

We can see how even small projects, such as swapping old lighting fixtures for LED versions, can save money on energy bills, and are good for the environment. I hope that more businesses in the borough will apply for, and benefit from, similar funding opportunities in the future.”

Making improvements to our business centres is important and we are always looking for ways to enhance funding to maximise on planned initiatives. To receive funding from the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council Green Grant is fantastic in helping us achieve our green business goals.
