A champion for local businesses
The Mayor of Chelmsford is an active supporter of local businesses and was keen to learn more about our facilities and our customers when she visited our Waterhouse Business Centre. She was also able to see what a vital hub the centre is for new and established small and medium-sized businesses in the area.
Lorraine Lee, Capital Space’s CEO and Centre Manager, Sharon D, greeted the Mayor, explained the history of the company and took her on a tour of the business centre - which is just a 10 minute walk from Chelmsford Train Station and offers a variety of office space and studios, workshops and light industrial units for flexible lease to local businesses.
The Mayor said: “You are trailblazers for flexible working and flexible workspace. You are looking to accommodate every stage of the business from those starting in the back bedroom to those outgrowing their units. It sounds like you have built quite a community here. It’s brilliant.”
Creating a secure business base for long and short-term lease
Three of our customers had the pleasure of being introduced to the Mayor on her visit and were thrilled to have the opportunity to discuss their individual business journey with her. Faretrade are our longest serving customer – they have been with us 20 years, whilst Power Cheer are a new customer, currently based in a workshop. The third customer, Cyberjammies have been a customer for six years and have moved from A block into a larger studio space as they expanded.
They gave the Mayor a good insight into the variety of small businesses succeeding in Chelmsford and highlighted the importance of access to a flexible, well-managed working environment that allows a business to thrive and grow.
Power Cheer founder Sydni Hall who moved into a workshop in June told the Mayor:
“I feel very fortunate to be here. There is no contract to worry about. There is no financial lock in and the team here are willing to work with me to get it working. This is a great stepping stone for me and this space allows me to build.”
Supporting Chelmsford businesses' growth
On having the important visit from such a great supporter of local business, Lorraine Lee, CEO of Capital Space said: “It is such a pleasure to have welcomed the Mayor of Chelmsford, Linda Mascot today, and explain how Capital Space’s vision has helped so many of our customers across the years. We are proud to provide such a unique environment from which small start-ups and businesses can be sited, become established and grow, whilst offering their staff a strong sense of community in which to work.”
Centre Manager, Sharon, added: “The team at Waterhouse Business Centre were delighted to have the mayor visit and it is a real boost to have such wonderful feedback on the centre and facilities we offer our customers. It’s a testament to the hard work and effort of the team and reminds us that we provide a great work environment where businesses are able to succeed.”
