At Capital Space we have an ongoing programme of investments and improvements to ensure our business accommodation is always of the highest quality for our SME customers. 2023 was no exception – and we are already embarking on the first of our 2024 updates across our business centres in Essex.

Improvements to Waterhouse Business Centre, Chelmsford

Creating a good first impression for visitors to our business centres on behalf of our customers is our top priority, so we’ve invested in a face lift for Waterhouse Business Centre , with £12,000 allocated to spruce up communal areas inside the 20-year-old building as well as outside. Last year we completed a refurbishment of the reception area, repainting it deep blue to align with our brand colours and to match the colour palette of our other business centres. We also installed new carpets and blinds to give the area a fresher feel, while new seats and furniture have been added to the waiting area so that visitors have a comfortable, modern experience.

The impact of the updates hasn’t gone unnoticed, and our Centre Manager, Sharon Dodson, said: “The repainting work has already made an enormous improvement to the look and feel of our reception, which has been appreciated by both staff and customers. We are now scoping out designs for a new reception desk, which we are very excited about.”

And we’re not stopping there… All the centre’s meeting rooms will have new roller blinds fitted and the workshops will also get a lick of fresh paint, to be carried out in phases and hopefully completed by spring.

The outdoor areas are also receiving some TLC with landscaping improvements planned for the front of the site to brighten up the area with the planting of new plants and shrubs.

Improvements to Colchester Business and Seedbed Centre

In line with our mission to work towards environmental sustainability , and to support the ESG strategies of our customers, we are very excited about the new solar panels which have been installed in Building C. It is a 41.5 KWP array consisting of 100 panels which can produce 33,335 kwh of electricity per year, equivalent to 290 trees planted annually. This follows on from the installation of solar photovoltaic panels at some of our other business centres last year, including Loughton Seedbed Centre. We are already looking to extend this solar project to our other centres, including Southend and Chelmsford, to increase our capacity to generate renewable energy and reduce our carbon footprint, and so in turn the carbon footprints of our customers.

Improvements to Loughton Seedbed Centre

We are set to install new flooring in the communal reception building at Loughton Seedbed Centre this year, with an investment of £2,700. The new flooring will be much more hard wearing than what we have currently and will modernise and refresh the space. Loughton Seedbed Centre’s manager, Carole Rice, cannot wait: “It will not only look better but also be easier to maintain and keep clean.”

We are constantly striving to provide the best working environments for our customers and are always looking for ways which we can reduce our environmental impact. This year’s aesthetic improvements will undoubtedly benefit our customers and their clients for the foreseeable future, and we are looking forward to continuing to invest in and improve our workspaces in 2024.
