Environmental Awards for Milton Keynes Business Centre

The new £8.8m Milton Keynes Business Centre has gained two top environmental awards, after being commended as a sustainable development that minimises environmental impacts.
A BREEAM Environmental Assessment Award gave offices at the Milton Keynes Business Centre a Very Good rating following a rigorous independent review of design and construction. Workshops at the Centre were also highly rated in assessments and gained a further Award.

Capital Enterprise Centres (CEC) planned to develop the Centre in an environmentally sensitive way from the outset and Managing Director Peter Boam said the company was delighted to have received the Awards.

He said: “We have an outstanding site at Linford Wood and we wanted to create a campus style business park that would meet all the needs of modern businesses while seeking to minimise environmental impacts.

“Our aim was always to use environmentally friendly systems wherever possible and to ensure that the Milton Keynes Centre met high standards in sustainability.”

One of the key green features at the Centre is a wood chip fuelled heating system based on renewable woodland resources. High standards of insulation also ensure good energy efficiency ratings.

Full recycling facilities with a range of bins for waste separation are provided and Centre businesses are encouraged to support recycling. A green travel plan also encourages the use of public transport, car sharing, and walking and cycling to work.

Particular care was taken in the preparation of the site for development and after an ecological survey a colony of great crested newts was successfully relocated.

Located off Foxhunter Drive at Linford Wood, the state of the art Business Centre provides offices, studios and workshops for more than 90 companies and offers around 5,000 square metres (54,000 square feet) of managed workspace. The Centre is already nearly half full and interest in the offices studios and workshops remains high..

CEC lets space on a simple monthly licence with an all-in-one fee that includes on-site management, maintenance, building insurance, refuse collection, security, water rates and the cleaning of common areas. Flexible easy in – easy out terms allow businesses to set up and expand without commitment to long-term agreements.

An on-site Centre Manager provides building management services and supervises administrative support, meeting room management, telecommunications and postal services. In addition to the full range of office, studio and workshop space the Centre also offers a comprehensive Virtual Service for businesses working from home and a full range of business continuity arrangements for larger companies.
