Care without compromise: How The Care Workshop pivoted their business to continue to deliver quality home care
As a care provider with an uncompromising commitment to quality, David of The Care Workshop, a domiciliary care provider, often collaborates with local authorities. However, when the business hit a speed bump, they needed to pivot their operations and turned to a new collaborator; Capital Space to help them overcome this challenge.
A people-centric approach
With over 40 years of combined experience, the leadership team behind The Care Workshop has a deep understanding of the needs of vulnerable individuals and their families. The business was built on a simple but powerful ethos: delivering high-quality, person-centred care that allows people to remain independent in their own homes.
Operating across the UK, in Birmingham and Banbury, The Care Workshop offers a wide range of domiciliary care services. These include help with meals, social interaction, support around the home, and practical assistance tailored to each individual’s needs. David explains that the team is made up of like-minded professionals who all share a passion for providing “care without compromise.”
Care for all the family
From its inception in 2014, The Care Workshop has grown steadily by focusing on relationships – not only with those receiving care, but also with their families and the broader care network.
“The vast majority of domiciliary care providers that you will find across this country are great at what they do. They are built upon the hard work that the carers do in the field,” says David. “The thing that will set any of us apart, is the relationship we establish with the person receiving the care and with the family.”
This commitment to quality has helped the business weather industry challenges, including a global pandemic. During COVID-19, The Care Workshop continued its in-home services, with carers stepping up under difficult and often risky conditions. Office staff had to transition quickly to remote working, but the company adapted to continue supporting its frontline teams.
A bureaucratic speed bump
When The Care Workshop opened an office at Milton Keynes Business Centre, the aim was to expand its services, working with local authorities. Unfortunately, due to factors beyond their control, the Milton Keynes office was not meant to be; at least for now. However, The Care Workshop remains confident that, in time, this will change.
“We’d already made the investment, secured the office, and prepared everything to deliver services,” David recalls. “We had taken all the necessary steps to be ready to launch as soon as needed. We believe it just wasn’t meant to happen this time.”
This setback meant vacating the physical office. However, it was at this point that the Capital Space staff, especially Matt at the Milton Keynes Business Centre, were able to offer a virtual solution.
“As a business, we were thinking at changing our telephone provider anyway, but, as direct result of meeting the team and speaking with Matt, we transferred all our telephone services for our branches across the country to the Capital Space VoIP system. Now, we have more than 25 users within our business, all on the Capital Space VoIP system.”
The Care workshop remain a virtual customer of Capital Space, with hopes to return to their physical office as soon as possible.
Growth should never come at the cost of quality

David’s goal is to continue expanding while maintaining the high standards of care that The Care Workshop is known for. “It’s a balancing act. Growth is good, however, we need to make sure that from the director level, right the way down to our colleagues that are on the ground, everyone is working in a safe and an appropriate way.”
With plans to serve new communities and explore additional partnerships with local authorities, the business is positioned to grow sustainably. Operational efficiency, paired with a commitment to staff support and training, remains central to this vision.
David’s business advice
David’s advice to other business owners is grounded in experience and integrity:
- Only grow when you’re confident your quality won’t suffer
- Make sure you surround yourself with people who are exceptional at what they do
- Adapt quickly but never compromise on your core values
For those entering the care profession, his message is clear: “Be the sort of person that delivers the type of care you would expect for your family.”
The Care Workshop’s story shows how flexibility, both in mindset and services, can help a business overcome unforeseen challenges and continue to grow.
