Empowering women through self-care: how the glow lab by Laura is shining bright in Milton Keynes
Women everywhere will know how confusing – and oftentimes overwhelming – the world of beauty and self-care can be, with seemingly a new treatment out every day. Many women today are also painfully aware of how difficult it can be to stay on top of their beauty regime while juggling work, kids, a partner – a life! However, it was this struggle that helped Milton Keynes client, Laura Pritchard, of The Glow Lab by Laura, identify a gap in the market: a salon that made feeling beautiful as easy as possible.
Confidence through self-care
For Laura Pritchard, founder of The Glow Lab by Laura, beauty is about more than aesthetics; it’s about empowerment. Based at the Milton Keynes Business Centre, her beauty business offers a range of treatments including facials, spray tans, and bespoke skincare consultations. Her mission? To give women a confidence boost that is as easy as pie.
Operating primarily in the evenings and on weekends, The Glow Lab serves busy clients from across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas, providing flexible, accessible services that fit around their schedules. With approximately 30 bookings a week and growing, Laura’s business is quickly becoming a local favourite.
With a background in accountancy and a passion for beauty, Laura used her experience to build a business that is customer-first. From free consultations to flexible payment options, and personalised aftercare goodie bags, every detail is designed to make clients feel supported and seen.
Laura is, herself, a busy woman
As a full-time accountant, on top of running the salon, Laura knows first-hand the challenges of carving out time for self-care. It’s this reality that drives her customer-focused approach:
“Everything is about making it easy for people. I accept card payments, or I’ve got a really straightforward online booking system. I’ve got free consultations. I’m even setting up subscriptions and self-care boxes, so you would, for example, book in for a spray tan every month, or build up a personalised facial package” she explains.
What sets The Glow Lab apart isn’t just the services, but the ethos. Laura believes in making beauty treatments affordable and non-intimidating. She’s currently writing an e-book to help clients navigate the often-overwhelming world of facials and aesthetics.
From a one-woman start-up to a thriving business with plans for expansion, The Glow Lab is a testament to Laura’s dedication. Future goals include growing into a studio space, hiring apprentices, and launching a training academy for Sienna X spray tanning in the Southeast.
Out-of-hours accommodation
When Laura was looking for a workspace, flexibility was key. She found the perfect match at the Milton Keynes Business Centre, where Capital Space offers easy-in, easy-out licenses and 24/7 access. The supportive reception staff, welcoming community, and well-maintained facilities were also deciding factors. Now operating from a ground-floor office converted into a calming treatment room, Laura can provide her services with the peace of mind that her space works around her, not the other way round.
“The reception team are so lovely and helpful and I feel like they’re helping collaborate with me on my business. I can go down and just give them a list of my appointments, then they will let clients in and buzz me to let me know that they’ve arrived ” Laura says.
No signs of slowing down
With the business growing steadily, Laura plans to soon leave her accountancy job and focus on The Glow Lab full-time. She is currently pursuing a degree in aesthetics in preparation for upcoming industry regulations, ensuring her qualifications match her ambition.
Laura is also exploring partnerships with women’s domestic abuse charities, hoping to offer free treatments as part of recovery support programmes. It’s a natural extension of her core business philosophy: to treat everyone like they’re wearing a sign that says, “make me feel important.”
Beauty business advice
For entrepreneurs looking to launch a beauty business, Laura has some clear advice:
- Be patient and consistent
- Invest in high-quality training
- Prioritise work-life balance
She also recommends using a mix of Instagram, Google Ads, and word-of-mouth to build a loyal customer base. “A WhatsApp group for regular clients with exclusive offers has been really effective,” she adds.
The Glow Lab by Laura proves that with passion, planning, and the right support, it’s possible to turn a side hustle into a full-time success – even with a packed schedule.
