Award-winning Milton Keynes Business Centre granted planning permission for innovative workshops
Planning permission has been granted to our award-winning Milton Keynes Business Centre to begin the construction of not one but two new workshops, decked with innovative features and state-of-the-art services. The build will commence in early 2026, however, we are sure that business owners on the waiting list for the ever-in-demand business centre will be keen to hear about the new available space — so here’s what you can expect.
What can Milton Keynes businesses expect from the build?
After receiving full planning permission from Milton Keynes Council, work is set to begin next spring to create two new workshop spaces at Milton Keynes Business Centre — a development designed to meet the growing demand for flexible, multi-purpose work environments.
The project has been developed in collaboration with planning consultant Paul Smith, from Apex Planning, who also supported the planning for the centre’s eco-friendly and award-winning Woodside Café, and architect Mark Bly from MTB Architecture.
The two new workshops, measuring approximately 800 sq ft and 1250 sq ft, will be located at the back of the centre, where existing storage containers will be relocated. Both will include internal mezzanine floors — a first for Capital Space — designed to make the most of the available area and offer greater flexibility for customers’ business needs.
In line with Capital Space’s commitment to sustainability, the workshops will also incorporate solar panels, EV chargers and battery storage technology, helping businesses lower their carbon footprint while benefiting from energy-efficient facilities.
Responding to the demands of a modern workshop
Over recent years, demand for hybrid workspaces has grown significantly, with many small business owners and entrepreneurs seeking environments that blend office facilities with space for production, storage, or creative work.
Centre Manager Matt Roberts explained:
“We’re getting more and more customers who want a combination, multi-purpose unit where they can have office staff and a small production or storage area in one workspace instead of a separate office or workshop. These new designs are a direct response to that — giving SMEs more choice and flexibility as they grow.”
He added: ““We have an excellent track record at Milton Keynes Business Centre when it comes to engaging with our customers, listening to their future workspace requirements and delivering spaces for their business to thrive. Another recent example was the introduction of our pre-fabricated timber frame café, which was designed following a survey of our customers, where they informed us of the importance of a central communal space where they could eat a healthy lunch, enjoy our outdoor space and meet with customers and colleagues.
“We have used the same methods of customer collaboration and engagement to launch this new project to expand our provision of flexible workshop spaces and we are very excited to progress this scheme now that we have achieved full planning permission.”
This development also reflects Capital Space’s long-term goal of evolving alongside its customers. By adapting to changing working styles and business needs, the company continues to support SME growth with practical, scalable solutions.
How will this build benefit Milton Keynes businesses?
For entrepreneurs and small business owners, the two new workshops represent an opportunity to base their operations in one of Milton Keynes’ most dynamic business communities. The new design combines functionality with sustainability — providing flexible layouts, eco-friendly energy solutions, and modern amenities to create productive, future-focused workspaces.
In addition, the project supports local environmental goals. To meet planning conditions, the development will deliver a 10% biodiversity net gain, including the planting of 26 new trees in the local area. This reflects Capital Space’s commitment to building greener business centres that not only support customers’ ESG (environmental, social and governance) values but also contribute positively to the local ecosystem.
For existing customers, this expansion further enhances the facilities available at Milton Keynes Business Centre — which already offers a choice of serviced offices, workshops, meeting rooms, and easy-in, easy-out licences that make scaling up simple.
Continuing a legacy of success
This latest investment comes after a standout year for the business centre, which scooped two prestigious accolades at the SME MK and Buckinghamshire Business Awards 2025 — Gold for Business of the Year (less than 50 employees) and Silver for Best Enterprising Business.
These awards recognise Milton Keynes Business Centre’s continued dedication to supporting local entrepreneurs and small business growth — a commitment that the new workshop expansion will only strengthen.
With construction set to begin in 2026, this project represents another exciting step in the evolution of our Milton Keynes Business Centre — and a continued investment in the success of our SME community.
With these two new state-of-the-art workshops on the horizon, Capital Space continues to deliver on its promise to provide flexible, sustainable, and customer-focused business accommodation that helps entrepreneurs thrive.
