How we saved over 300,000 kilograms of Carbon Dioxide
At Capital Space, as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have installed solar panels at eight of our business centres across the southeast. The result? Last year we saved 302,639.5 Kilograms of CO2.
How much energy did we save?
The drive toward a greener economy is a priority for every modern business owner, and at Capital Space, we believe our infrastructure should lead by example. In 2025, our solar arrays generated a total of 605,279 kWh of clean electricity across our network.
To understand the scale of this achievement, we look at domestic energy benchmarks. The average UK household uses approximately 2,700 kWh of electricity per year. This means the power generated by our business centres last year was enough to provide electricity for 224 households for an entire year.
We saw a slight dip in overall generation since 2024, when we produced 628,499 kWh, largely due to essential maintenance and unforeseen events. Colchester Business Centre saw its array offline for four months during the peak summer season while awaiting repairs. Remarkably, despite this downtime, Sittingbourne produced almost exactly the same amount of electricity as it did in 2024, demonstrating the incredible efficiency of modern solar technology during its active months.
Why we’ve installed solar panels
For any entrepreneur or small business, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies are no longer “nice-to-haves”—they are essential for securing contracts and attracting talent. By investing in solar technology at eight of our locations, including Milton Keynes Business Centre and Churchill Square Business Centre in Kings Hill, Capital Space is actively reducing the carbon intensity of the business accommodation we provide.
The environmental impact of this initiative is profound. Based on standard solar efficiency models, it is estimated that every kilowatt-hour of power generated by a solar panel saves around 0.5kg of carbon emissions. By generating over 600,000 kWh, we have prevented 302,639.5kg of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. To put that in context, according to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, this is the equivalent of the carbon sequestered by more than 13,000 mature trees in a single year.
Benefits for our customers
When an SME looks for a new office or workshop, they are often looking for more than just four walls; they are looking for a partner that supports their growth. Choosing a workspace with integrated renewable energy provides a “green halo” effect for our customers. Whether you are using our meeting rooms to impress a new client or operating under our flexible monthly license, you can do so knowing your operational impact is being mitigated.
Furthermore, our investment in solar panels helps shield our centres from the volatility of the global energy market. This stability allows us to continue providing the high-quality, efficient service that entrepreneurs expect from a leading business centre. From Greenway Business Centre in Harlow to Loughton Seedbed Centre, the focus remains on creating productive and environmentally friendly workplaces.
For those not yet ready for a physical space, our virtual offices provide a professional front while still aligning your brand with a company that prioritises the environment. By choosing Capital Space, you are joining a community of like-minded small businesses that value sustainability as a core pillar of business success.
Our solar arrays have successfully saved over 302 tonnes of CO2 in the last year alone, providing a cleaner, greener foundation for our customers to thrive.
