Sustainable serviced offices celebrate World Environmental Day
This month it’s World Environmental Day, but at Capital Space, we’re striving towards a more sustainable future every day by helping small business owners find the perfect, eco-friendly serviced offices across London and the Southeast.
What are Capital Space’s sustainable initiatives?
At Capital Space, sustainability is woven into the daily operations of our business accommodation. We take a holistic approach to environmental management, ranging from large-scale renewable energy projects to the smallest details in our communal kitchens.
- Renewable Energy: We have extensive solar PV arrays across our sites. For example, Churchill Square Business Centre in Kings Hill is currently working on a major solar upgrade following a successful grant application.
- Waste & Recycling: Our centres actively manage diverse recycling streams. Beyond standard paper and plastic, we facilitate pallet recycling, furniture ‘freecycling’, and dedicated battery recycling. We have also provided IT recycling services, after recognising the demand, which ensures electronic waste is handled securely and sustainably.
- Water Conservation: We are progressively installing water-saving technology, such as the sensor taps recently fitted during the bathroom refurbishment at our Harlow business centre. In Milton Keynes, we even reuse water from meeting rooms to nourish our outdoor planters.

- Eco-Friendly Products: We are transitioning to sustainable supplies. Our Chelmsford business centre and Harlow business centre have led the way by using durable, dishwasher-safe eco-sponges, while Loughton Seedbed Centre utilises bulk-refillable Ecover cleaning products to reduce single-use plastic waste.

During our most recent meeting, Eco Champions discussed everything from lithium battery safety to trialling the recycling of plastic toilet roll ends. These local experts ensure that whether you are in Croydon business centre or Sittingbourne business centre, our commitment to the planet remains consistent and effective.
How has this impacted our customers?
For the entrepreneurs and SMEs who call Capital Space home, these initiatives result in a more efficient and productive work environment. Our focus on energy efficiency helps mitigate the rising costs of utilities, while our waste management services, such as on-site shredding and IT recycling, provide peace of mind for security-conscious businesses.
However, the most direct impact on our businesses is the reduction of their environmental “shadow.” At Capital Space, as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have installed solar panels at eight of our business centres across the southeast. As a result, we saved 302,639.5 Kilograms of CO2 in 2025.
Last year, our solar arrays generated a total of 605,279 kWh of clean electricity across our network. To put this into perspective, the average UK household uses approximately 2,700 kWh of electricity per year. This means the clean power generated by our business centres last year was enough to provide electricity for 224 households for an entire year.
By choosing a workspace that prioritises renewable energy and waste reduction, small business owners can focus on growth while automatically improving their company’s green credentials.
