Why Capital Space means community
At Capital Space, we believe that no business is an island, and there is immense benefit to be gained by encouraging community. Here’s how we have promoted a vibrant business community within our business centres across London and the Southeast
Why we believe in the power of community
Running a small business or working as an entrepreneur brings freedom and autonomy, but it can also be an isolated journey. Research by YouGov revealed that around a third of small business leaders have felt lonely or isolated while running their venture, a figure that rises to 65% among those in their first year of trading. Furthermore, a study by Mental Health UK highlighted that 80% of small business owners experience common symptoms of poor mental health, with feelings of isolation and overwhelming responsibility playing a significant role.
Building a business does not have to be a solitary effort. When entrepreneurs and SMEs step into a dedicated business centre, they gain more than just physical desk space; they become part of a collaborative ecosystem. Surrounding yourself with fellow business owners creates valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing, mutual encouragement, and moral support. At Capital Space, we know that a strong community boosts business resilience, keeps motivation high, and gives small businesses the human backing they need to succeed and grow.
Caring for our Capital Space community
Our customers frequently share how much the warm, supportive, and friendly atmosphere across our business centres means to them. Whether a business operates from a physical office, studio, workshop, or virtual office, the sense of community is immediate and tangible.
For start-up founder Croweaters, operating from a virtual office at Churchill Square Business Centre in Kings Hill became the natural next step after spending time within the local business community and experiencing its support first-hand. Looking ahead to future growth. Croweaters’ Robert Carroll said:
“The staff on the reception desk have been absolutely fantastic. They’ve been very patient with me as I’ve tried to figure out what Croweaters is.”
At Capital Business Centre in Croydon, Dante from Echo Sound Academy also relies on the dedicated support of the centre team:
“If I need anything, I know the centre team is an email away or I can just walk down to reception, and it’s great to know I have that support. For example, before I got my printer the centre team were happy to print off some documents that I needed.”
“The centre also feels like a community – different businesses, but very supportive – and you can promote your own business within the community.”
Charities also find a welcoming, hassle-free home within our community. When local charity Croydon Hearing moved to Capital Business Centre in Croydon, manager Vanessa recalled:
“From our first visit it was like a warm hug.”
“The centre management team is really friendly, but it’s also the community. We don’t know everybody, but we know enough people to go, ‘Hi, how are you doing?’. We walk past their offices, we speak to people, so it feels like a little village. It’s brilliant. I’m never moving!”
For healthcare providers, community and accessibility go hand in hand. Santhosh Alexander established Bethel Wellness Clinic at Churchill Square Business Centre in Kings Hill to provide clients with a discreet and professional setting. Santhosh said:
“The strong sense of community, combined with excellent accessibility and good parking, makes it convenient for clients to attend appointments without the need to travel into London or disrupt their day. The environment here supports professional businesses and has played an important role in our continued growth.”
Meanwhile in the Loughton Seedbed Centre, Amanda of AMP Reform Studio secured an 1,100 sq. ft warehouse-style unit with an industrial aesthetic that provided the perfect backdrop for the New York loft-inspired Pilates studio, while flexible licence terms allowed her to get operational without delay. Amanda credited the on-site team with making her feel at home:
“My experience at Capital Space has been nothing short of amazing. Carole and Natalia have been incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. From the very start, they made me feel safe and supported, and I immediately knew it was a great location to launch AMP Reform Studio, along with everything that is included when renting a unit from the Seedbed Centre.”
Caring for the wider community
Caring for community extends far beyond our business centre front doors. Capital Space is deeply committed to supporting local causes across Kent, Essex, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, and London.
Every year, our business centres unite to raise vital funds for local and national charities, while our teams regularly get active for good causes, participating in events like our stroke awareness charity walk and the Walk All Over Cancer fundraising at Chelmsford Business Centre. Greenway Business Centre in Harlow and Chelmsford Business Centre frequently lead by example, encouraging customers across each building to step up for cancer research. Furthermore, we take pride in directly hosting and supporting charitable customers like Croydon Hearing.
Caring for local business communities
A thriving business community also relies on active networking and peer support. Capital Space facilitates regular opportunities for entrepreneurs to connect, exchange advice, and form strategic partnerships across our locations in Chelmsford, Colchester, Croydon, Harlow, Kings Hill, Loughton, Milton Keynes, Sittingbourne, and Southend. Most recently, we hosted Kent Invica Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Connections event as Churchill Square Business Centre.
We equally encourage our centre staff to take an active role in their local business community. We invested over £1,000 this year to allow our centre managers and staff to attend local networking groups, improving their professional skills and developing their understanding of their local business communities.
Whether hosting informal coffee mornings or structured networking sessions, our business centres bring diverse SMEs together under one roof.
To support these interactions, Capital Space provides professional meeting rooms available for hire, equipped with modern technology to help you host clients or present to partners effortlessly. Combined with flexible Easy In Easy Out licences, small business owners gain complete financial flexibility alongside a vibrant local business network.
By building a collaborative environment that takes care of day-to-day office management and supports local charities, Capital Space empowers small business owners to focus on what they do best while thriving inside a supportive professional network.
