Eco-champions: Bringing in Summer sustainably
Across the Southeast, our flexible serviced business centres are aided by our tremendous eco-champion representatives, who work hard to reduce our carbon footprint and find new ways to make our offices more sustainable, as part of our Green Policy. Now, as the weather gets warmer, we are seeing the fruits of their love – and labour – bloom.
Chelmsford
At Chelmsford Business Centre, a £20,000 landscaping investment made last year is now bursting into colour. Centre Manager Sharon Dodson said: “Spring has certainly sprung and our flowers are looking fabulous in the sun. We undertook a large landscaping project last year and are certainly seeing the rewards with fantastic blooms.”
This vibrant new green space not only lifts the spirits of our customers but also supports biodiversity—something many small business owners are keen to align with their ESG goals. Sustainable surroundings help create a more productive and inspiring workplace—key for any SME looking to thrive.
Five new picnic benches—crafted from recycled plastic bottles—are being delivered ready for summer, enhancing the outdoor seating area opposite the café. Landscaping improvements are also planned to make this social space even more inviting.
In the kitchens, biodegradable bamboo brushes have replaced traditional plastic ones following the success of eco-sponges. It’s a small swap that makes a big difference.
Kings Hill
Our team at our Kings Hill business centre are also blooming with eco-ideas: one of our creative customers has volunteered to build bird boxes and bug hotels to be installed across all Capital Space sites. This partnership with our customers shows how businesses can come together to support sustainability in flexible office environments.
Milton Keynes
At Milton Keynes Business Centre, our team joined the popular No Mow May initiative. Letting the grass grow has welcomed wildflowers and wildlife—making our outdoor areas both eco-friendly and beautiful.
Our eco champion Roxy has also launched a new book-swap scheme. Customers can donate and take a book for free—promoting reuse and reducing waste. These kinds of small, customer-led changes build community while supporting greener business practices.
New food waste bins have also been rolled out across all centres, in line with recent UK government waste legislation . These have been positively received by staff and customers alike.
From wildflowers to bamboo brushes, our customers and centre managers are helping make every Capital Space location greener—one sustainable change at a time.
